Canada has various programs for candidates on a student work visa such as:-

Co-Operative Education Or Internship

In specific academic programs work, the experience is a part of the curriculum.

To engage in such programs, you should satisfy the following conditions:-

  • Hold a valid study permit and intended employment must be a crucial part for your program of study in Canada.
  • Your work must be part of your academic program, approved by a letter from a qualified academic official of the institution.
  • Your internship or co-op employment cannot comprise more than 50% of the complete program of study.

Working On-Campus

As an international student, you can work at the Campus if:-

  • You are enrolled as a full-time student in a public post-secondary institution, such as a university or college, or a CEGEP in Quebec.
  • You are registered as a full-time student in a Canadian private institution approved by provincial regulation to present degrees.
  • You are listed as a full-time student in any Canadian private institution that runs under the same rules and regulations and receives 50 % of finances from government authorities or their operations.
  • You hold a valid work visa.

Working On-Campus

As an international student, you are allowed to work outside the Campus if:-

  • You have procured a satisfying grade in the program being studied.
  • You hold a valid student visa.
  • You study at participating institutions as not all institutions let you work off-campus.
  • You sign a form authorising the province, the institution and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to dispense your personal information.
  • You have studied full-time for six months in the 12 months preceding the work permit application.
  • You are listed as a full-time student participating in a publicly funded post-secondary educational institution or an authorised program at a qualified privately funded institution.
  • You must have applied and received a student work permit.
  • You work less than 20 hours a week throughout the academic session and full-time during breaks.

Working In Canada After Graduation

You can apply for a PGWP or Post-Graduation Work Permit from overseas or within Canada, provided that you’re qualified. If you don’t replace your status to a visitor and your study permit expires, you hold up to 90 days following the expiration of your study permit to apply for a PGWP and reclaim your status as a student.

There are many choices to stay and gain worthwhile Canadian experience after the conclusion of your course. Later you can also apply for Permanent Residency if you meet the criteria.

If You Have Graduated From:-

  • A post-secondary or private secondary institution (in Quebec) that offers qualifying programs longer than 900 hours heading to a DEP or ASP or
  • A private post-secondary institution that functions under the same guidelines and statutes as public institutions, or
  • A public post-secondary institution, such as a university, trade/technical school, college or CEGEP (in Quebec), or
  • A Canadian private institution approved by provincial statute to confer degrees but only if you are registered in one of the programs of study leading to a degree as authorised by the province and not in every program of study granted by the private institution.

You can apply for post-study work visa inside 90 days of acquiring your transcript of passing the course and receive a notification from the institute that after sufficing all the conditions you are now qualified to get the Diploma/Degree/Certificate.
